I Don’t Belong Here by Alyssa McMurry

Growing up in a predominantly visiting a childhood home has never been an option for me.  The realization of this has given me a sense of childhood that seems both ephemeral and temporal; memories remain in a non-existent location.  My current body of work utilizes personal narratives along with domestic icons of houses which remain faceless yet uniformly personal; my narratives become everyone’s narratives.  Having this weight and I can never go home placed face to face create a didactic yet community narrative of past, present, and futures.

Art’s Birthday

Thanks to everyone who came out to celebrate Art’s Birthday with us today!  We had lots of cake, and good times.

A special thanks goes out to everyone who dropped on a donation to the Food Bank and entered our raffle for High Performance Rodeo tickets.  Congratulations to our four winners: Tawny McKee, Jana Brodkin, Gillian Mitchell, and Martina Macdonald!

From Wikipedia:
[Robert] Filliou first proposed “Art’s Birthday” in 1963. He suggested that 1,000,000 years ago, there was no art. But one day, on January 17 to be precise, Art was born. Filliou says it happened when someone dropped a dry sponge into a bucket of water. He also proposed a public holiday to celebrate the presence of art in our lives. Art’s Birthday was first publicly celebrated in 1973 in Auchen, Germany and at the same time in Paris, France.

The CADSA Exhibition is a terrific opportunity to have your work on display for
a week on the ACAD campus and a week on the NSCAD campus. The work will be
experienced by a variety of members from the ACAD and NSCAD community.

Submissions from ACAD students will now be accepted at the ACADSA Office in the
main mall. The first exhibition will be at ACAD from January 29th- February 4th
in Gallery 371. Then the work will travel across Canada to the Nova Scotia
College of Art and Design and will be in the 2nd exhibition from March 13-17th.

Submission Guidelines:
-Submissions will be accepted until 4:30pm on January 24th at the ACADSA office
in the Main Mall
-Submissions should be in the form of a high quality color image on a standard
8.5” x 11” paper with the image size being within the range of 4”x6” to 5”x7”.
The print out should also include the artists name, program & major, title,
medium, dimensions, and year. As well as contact information.
-Each artist may submit only one piece, and we request that the work that is
submitted is work that is ready to be installed.
-Submissions are available to only unframed or framed 2D work, and under the
dimensions of
36’ x 36’.

Only 5 successful submissions will be accepted and notified by January 25th.
Work will then have to be dropped off before January 27th at the ACADSA Office.

the work will be returned before May.
